Gas Cluster Ion Beam to Change Surface Chemistry
Exogenesis’ GCIB platform technology is modified by combining additional gasses with argon (O2, N2, CH4, etc.). The combinations of gasses form clusters that are electrically charged and accelerated through high voltage in a vacuum. The gas clusters impact the surface of a target, and in doing so transfer their large total energies into the target surface at the point of impact. As a result, the added gas atoms infuse into the surface, thereby changing the surface chemistry while altering and controlling surface properties including nanoscale surface texture, hydrophilicity and crystallinity.
